I have to apologize first for the lack of a "true" answer....but a couple of points
1. Having a beard is really tough on the skin, it gets no exposure and the follicles are just begging to cause problems...put in girl speak, imagine your friend asking you how you get the underarms so smoothe, and she doesn't shave....a tough one
2. Skin is completely unique, what works for one does not mean it works for all (again, girlie talk)
But after all that, I would say that I don't think this is the product for which you are looking for, it's very good, and finishes dry, but I have oily skin. However, this product will not dry out the skin, it's a very light coat that to me, feels good. God I really wish I could answer this question with a "yes" or a "no", but differences are inevitable
btw, good job on caring for your man, so many girls just seem to think that we are and no input is needed....
Happy Hunting.... ;)

I can't comment on trying to apply lotion through a beard, but menscience is rather light-weight, and probably won't cure extremely dry skin. it is a great product, but if you don't mind spending more money, try B. Kamins bio maple treatment night cream. It smells girly, but you only wear it at night so no matter, and it is EXCELLENT for dry flaky skin!!

My fiance has combination skin that can also flake if left untreated. He uses a Nuxe serum first, then the Menscience lotion and it works like a dream. It's really improved the texture of his skin and no more flakes! For the price, the lotion is a steal, too -- it's full of great ingredients. I'd recommend it since my fiance had great success with the Menscience lotion (&, in fact, the entire product line).
